To my super M-O-T-H-E-R

To my super M-O-T-H-E-R

I specially wrote
This Piece of note
For my daddy's wife,
The first lady of my life
But if you are a mother or a woman,
Who will someday bring forth another human
Then this is yours too to relish
This is yours too to cherish.

                   M
Month May makes me very glad, never sad and all gay.
Many other people I’m sure feel the same way
Mainly because of this very special day
Man has named and framed mother's day.

                   O
Oh boy! When I see a pregnant woman I wait and wonder.
Out it doesn't come but I pause and ponder
Over how much she would have charged that baby in her,
Only if it were to pay for being in there

                  T
Thank you mother for carrying me for six month plus three
Through the pain and the push-push you did because of me.
The breast and milk was great. Wondering why men can't forget them?
That, I guess is the very genesis of that problem.

                  H
Honey, grieve not if on mother's day I overfill her purse
Hahahaa! For that Moses rod you love so much she did nurse.
Hate me not if I choose her if both of you are drowning in a river
Had it not been her, I wouldn't have ever been your lover.

                  E
Ever loving, ever caring, ever comforting mother of mine
Extraordinary, incomparable super mother of our family of nine
Every day, every week, every month, every year will pass and go
Even you may join but my love for you will forever grow.

                              R
RUTH, my dear marvelous mother, my sweetest sweetheart, my only one,
Ridiculous it sounds but if you hear I've been arrested for stealing the sun
Rejoice! For that is the extent I can go to show the size of my love
Really, you are the best mum I will always wish to have.

I'm GLAD you're my DAD

I'm GLAD you're my DAD

I know my dad may never read this
But whether he reads it or not, it is still his.

For all the love words you told my mum,
And all the love songs you had to hum,
For all the lovely gifts you had to buy too
Until finally she said 'I do',
I'm glad
You're my dad.

For all the strength you lost in making me,
For all the styles though I didn't see,
And for all the silly errands you had to go
All because pregnant mum said so,
I'm glad
You're my dad.

For all the prayers you said till 27th august dawn,
For all the insults you received from mum till I was finally born,
For all the baby sitting you did when mum was away
And all the lullabies you sang to make me play,
I'm glad
You're my dad

For the trouble you went through when I got burnt on my chest,
And the countless times you took me to the clinic for eye test,
For the lenses and frames you continuously bought
And I carelessly broke while I slept or fought,
I'm glad
You're my dad

For each spank, for each slap, for each blow,
For each knock, for each lash I saw you throw,
I hated you but now I've grown and I know
That they were only to help me grow.

A day will come that I will be called daddy too
And I'll do my best to be praised like you
My ears went close to my sweetheart's tummy today
And I'm sure I heard each of my future twins say;

I'M GLAD
YOU'RE MY DAD

YESTERDAY, MY VALENTINE'S DAY

YESTERDAY, MY VALENTINE'S DAY

When I ended my usual 9pm to 6am date with my bed
And indeed it was Valentine’s Day as the calendar had already declared,

I wasn't thrilled, nay!
Cos Yesterday
Was my Valentine’s Day

When I came across the word love
As I had my quiet time with Our Father above,

I didn't lose concentration, nay!
Cos yesterday
Was my Valentine’s Day.

When my mum served my breakfast of tea and bread
And beside the flask sat a fresh pack of chocolate spread

My tongue wasn't excited to taste, nay!
Cos yesterday
Was my Valentine’s Day

When I opened my wardrobe to choose a shirt and a tie
And the slim red one with pride said hi

I wasn't filled with glee, nay!
Cos yesterday
Was my Valentine’s Day

When I entered my office and the dispenser was filled with chocolate beverage
And someone was sipping a glass of it as she read a text message,

I wasn't jealous, nay!
Cos yesterday
Was my Valentine’s Day

As I go round to fill a form or to give a client his policy certificate,
If I see people exchanging cards, roses and bars of chocolate,

I won't be sad, nay!
Cos yesterday
Was my Valentine’s Day.

After work if I see people in red going out in pairs
And restaurant attendant busily arranging drinks and chairs

I wouldn't be tempted instead I’ll pick my phone and dial the number
Of the one who sleeps in my heart's special chamber

And tell her:
Gracias por hacer el día de ayer mi San Valentín
Which simply means thanks for making yesterday
My valentine's day.

TWO true simple DIMPLES

TWO true simple DIMPLES

Two are the dimples on my face,
True, they are simple and in place,
But which of them faces the camera today
That a picture I really must display?

Mirror, mirror
On my heart's wall
Hurry! Hurry! Answer my urgent call.
Which is the fairer of the two?
Which is clearest?
Which is true?

The left I’m tempted to choose
Though the right I don't want to lose.
The right brings me memories I cherish
And the left builds moments I relish.

Mirror, mirror
On my heart's wall
Hurry! Hurry! Answer my urgent call.
Which is the fairer of the two?
Which is clearest?
Which is true?

My pretty dog that I love and often miss
Wants to wish me luck with a doggy kiss.
I know I must draw close with either my left or right cheek
But the answer is all I ever ever seek.

Mirror, mirror
On my heart's wall
Hurry! Hurry! Answer my urgent call.
Which is the fairer of the two?
Which is clearest?
Which is true?

If I had all my life and time
And could add more lines to this rhyme,
I will cooperate till I make the choice
That will separate me forever from the boys.

The camera will soon blink.
The flash will soon wink.
My image will soon be captured.
And my face will soon be pictured.
Whichever of the two that will appear
I will love and still hold the other dear
Until the mirror, mirror on my heart's wall
Answers my humble humble and urgent call

RAISE NOT PRAISE!

RAISE NOT PRAISE!

To the teacher who taught me 123 and ABC,
Through to the one who will help me get my PhD,
I write these words just to say;
Happy world Teachers' day

If the lesson note book on the shelf
Can jump onto the table all by itself
And fill it numerous pages
With topics from English’s verbs to math’s percentages

It will agree
Surely With me
That teachers should not only be praised
But their salaries must be raised

If the long measuring rule
Can move to every pupil in the school
To inspect hankies, socks, nails and even pubic hair
And punish them for not giving their body proper care

It will agree
Surely With me
That  teachers should not only be praised
But their salaries must be raised

If the class attendance book, call it the register
Which is bound by cello tape and even plaster
And filled with strange names like Obiba Rasta
Can call out names for the pupil to respond; present master,

It will agree
Surely With me
That  teachers should not only be praised
But their salaries must be raised

If the pointer which doubles as the cane
Can all by itself inflict pain
On pupils who don't want to use their brain
And warn them not to be silly again

It will agree
Surely With me
That teachers should not only be praised
But their salaries must be raised

If the blackboard and the chalk
Can stand from 8am to 2pm and talk
About the flower and its stigma and it's stalk
And how human's also aid pollination as we eat and walk

It will agree
Surely With me
That teacher should not only be praised
But their salaries must be raised

If the red or black ball pen
Can mark homework and give some pupils 8 and some zero over ten

 It will agree
Surely With me
That teacher should not only be praised
But their salaries must be raised

If the text book can set questions for end of term examination
Type, invigilate and mark before vacation
Then give to the report card the marks of every student
So it can fill itself and give the usual remark-More room for improvement

They will agree
Surely With me
That teachers should not only be praised
But their salaries must be raised

If you've been able to read this write up from start to end
And can even write a comment, then my dear friend,

You've got to agree
Surely With me
That teachers should not only be praised
But their salaries must be raised

If one of these days the pen, chalk and other teaching equipment
Are found at the entrance of the parliament
Please don't sweep them away
Cos this is what they've come to say;

Teachers must not only be praised
But their salaries must be raised.
